Type 1 Agn and Their Link to Ulirgs

چکیده

Increasing observational evidence supports a picture for a close link among AGN phenomenum, star-formation processes and galaxy formation. Since the physical phenomena related to the onset of both AGN and star formation are very likely characterized by a strong far infrared (FIR) emission it becomes mandatory to investigate the FIR energy domain. However, because of their faintness in the FIR energy range, very little is known about the FIR properties of type 1 AGN, and type 2 AGN, which are supposed to be missed in classical searches, still lack definition and samples. Our aim is to investigate the FIR properties of optically selected type 1 AGN, compare them to Ultraluminous Infrared Galaxies (ULIRGs) and derive some general characteristics of the population. Expectations for future surveys are also presented.

Mid - infrared Spitzer spectra of X - ray selected Type 2 QSOs : QSO 2 s are not ULIRGs

We have performed a spectroscopic study of 7 Type 2 QSOs using the mid-infrared spectrometer IRS on board the Spitzer Space Telescope. These are (to our knowledge) the first mid-IR spectra of X-ray selected QSO2s taken. The objects have been selected according to their high intrinsic luminosities and column densities in the X-rays. Their spectra strongly differ from template spectra of Type 2 A...

Monsters and Babies from the First / Iras Survey

1. Abstract Radio continuum emission at cm wavelengths is relatively little affected by extinction. When combined with far-infrared (FIR) surveys this provides for a convenient and unbiased method to select (radio-loud) AGN and starbursts deeply embedded in gas and dust–rich galaxies. Such radio-selected FIR samples are useful for detailed investigations of the complex relationships between (ra...

The AGN Content of Ultraluminous IR Galaxies: High Resolution VLA Imaging of the IRAS 1 Jy ULIRG Sample

This paper presents the results of a high resolution radio imaging survey of 83 of the 118 ultraluminous infrared galaxies (ULIRGs) in the IRAS 1 Jy ULIRG sample. We have observed these ULIRGs at 15 GHz with the Very Large Array (VLA). We find that ∼75% of Seyferts (both type 1 and 2) and LINERs have radio nuclei which are compact at our 150 mas resolution. The detection rate of H II nuclei is ...

A Chandra Survey of the Nearest Ulirgs: Obscured Agn or Super-starbursts?

We present initial results from a Chandra survey of a complete sample of the 8 nearest (z ≤ 0.04) ultraluminous IR galaxies (ULIRGs), and also include the IR-luminous galaxy NGC 6240 for comparison. In this paper we use the hard X-rays (2-8 kev) to search for the possible presence of an obscured AGN. In every case, a hard X-ray source is detected in the nuclear region. If we divide the sample a...

The AGN/starburst content in high redshift ULIRGs

We apply a simple model, tested on local ULIRGs, to disentangle the active galactic nucleus (AGN) and starburst contributions in submillimiter and 24 μm-selected ULIRGs observed with the Spitzer-IRS spectrometer. We quantitatively estimate the average AGN contribution to the stacked 6−8 μm rest-frame spectra of these sources in different luminosity and redshift ranges, and, under the assumption...
